Several people have complained about the povlinux.tgz file being corrupt.

                      *** IT IS NOT CORRUPT! ***

There is nothing wrong with the file. It has been tested multiple times.
Plus, 99% of the people who retrieve it have no problems. If you have
problems then YOU have a corrupt copy. If this is not rectified after
a fresh download, then you are either the victim of a proxy caching a
bad copy, or you have some strange net link error. If you are using a 
proxy, try turning it off, or fetching the file via a different means
(i.e. ftp instead of http, or vice-versa. The FTP directory of this
web server can be accessed via http://www.povray.org/ftp/pub/...).

Here are the checksums of the files in this dir made using the standard
'cksum' command ...

If you don't get this then there's something wrong with your copy. We
recommend you download it using a REAL standalone FTP program, NOT a
web browser.

You're right (of course) -- the file povlinux.tgz is not corrupt.

This appears to be a problem with Netscape Navigator and HTTP.
I don't know the solution, but the problem can be demonstrated
as follows:

(1) Navigate to the page containing the link to povlinux.tgz.

(2) Right-click on the link and select "save link as..."
    Select some temporary directory. Allow the download to
    begin.

(3) After the download has progressed some amount, click "Cancel".

(4) Repeat steps (1) and (2) above.

Netscape will report an incorrect file size for the file.

Apparently, Netscape attempts to resume the download at the point at
which it was interrupted. However, the "Cancel" operation deletes
the portion of the file that has already been transferred. This
results in a corrupted file on the target computer.

Clearing the disk and memory cache under Netscape seems to alleviate
the problem and forces a download from the beginning of the file.

I hope this is useful to you and to anyone else who is having trouble
downloading the Linux version.
